And I find something happening in the back of my brain, something that it worries me might fall under the “crazy” heading. I find myself beginning to look for socks that have holes starting in them, so I can feed them to my compost bin. Kids don’t eat their vegetables? Fine. I know something that will. When I buy fabric to make my girls’ dresses, I think of the scraps I’ll toss on the floor while I sew. Natural fibers will feed my compost bin and my obsession. Anything else has to go in the trash, and somebody else gets all the fun. When I carefully pack up the paper trash from our hamburger feeding frenzy to carry home with me, I get sidelong looks from my fellow diners, but what could be better than a doggie bag that actually gets eaten?
